The octatonic scale is one of those things every music theory course teaches. Okay, we nod our heads. Eight notes in a scale. Instead of the normal seven. We listen as the professor ramps up, getting himself increasingly excited about the fact that it’s basically two stacked diminished chords, a completely symmetric scale, four of every single interval.
